Importer Security Filing (ISF 10+2) is mandated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for ocean container shipments entering the United States. It consists of 10 data elements from the importer and 2 from the ocean carrier. The ISF must be electronically submitted at least 24 hours before cargo is loaded aboard the vessel at the foreign port to avoid $5,000+ fines per violation.
A Single Entry Bond (SEB) covers only one specific shipment entry and requires a separate ISF bond if arriving by ocean. A Continuous Customs Bond ($50,000 minimum face value) covers all import entries through any U.S. port for an entire 12-month period and automatically includes ISF bond coverage. Continuous bonds are significantly more cost-effective for companies importing 2 or more shipments per year.
